My AM/PM beauty routine using The Ordinary by Deciem
For as long as I can remember, I've had a problem with acne. I remember going to so many dermatologists whilst growing up to try and get rid of them. Nothing worked. I literally had spots on top of spots. Those were sad, awkward times. My 14 year old self would have thought that I wouldn't have this problem when I got to 36. Luckily, I can't travel back in time to break the bad news.
I started using The Ordinary by Deciem a few months ago, because I saw their products everywhere and more importantly, they are affordable. These guys have so many different types of oils and serums that it was a bit overwhelming looking through their products, but I found the regime guide, which gives you an example of what you can try.
Some examples on the page are for; general signs of age, pigmentation issues, dehydration, signs of congestions & the look of blemishes and textural irregularities.
I bought myself the congestion & blemishes regime (I added the Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane as a 'growing-old-prevention-kinda-thing'. I also bought a bottle of 100% plant-derived Squalane as a moisturiser).
It's taken me a lot of self-restraint to not use a face wash.. I'm a sucker for nice smellies and pretty packaging. I've found that face washes dry my skin out whilst still giving me spots, so I've concluded that washing my face with just water and a flannel does the job nicely. If I've worn a lot of makeup that day, I'll clean my face using some cotton wool and oil (I normally use either baby oil, olive oil, jojoba oil or a concoction I found from Mommypotamus, which is a witch hazel extract and olive oil DIY cleaner) before going back to water and a flannel. Then I start on The Ordinary products.
Although on the regime guide, they suggest to use just Niacinamide + Zinc in the morning, followed by Salicylic Acid and Niacinamide + Zinc in the evening, I decided to use the serums together in both my AM/PM routine. The Salicylic Acid product description says you can use it for both AM/PM and I found better results using it this way. In the evenings, I also apply the Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane. When my face feels a bit dry, I'll use the 100% plant-derived Squalene after applying the first 2 serums.
A few months into using these products every day, I do see a difference in my skin. I still have spots, but a lot less of it. I might give a different acid a go in the future but will do some research and check out the reviews before changing it up. I'd also like to try the sun care products which aren't available on their website yet.
